When we talk about hosting web servers, there are 3 major kinds - shared web hosting web servers, VPS (private virtual web servers) and dedicated servers. Shared hosting servers accommodate lots of customers and thus the resources per web hosting account are limited, VPS packages offer more configuration liberty, but also influence other private virtual hosting servers on the hardware node if used imprudently, and dedicated servers give you the chance to carry out everything you see fit without messing with anyone else.

Why would you require a dedicated server?

Dedicated servers are generally much more high-priced than shared hosting servers or private virtual hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The answer is quite simple. If your corporation has a resource-requiring online portal, or just has very specific server configuration requirements, the most sensible option is a dedicated server. For somebody who is prepared to invest in security and dependability, the greater price is of no importance. You are granted full server root privileges and can utilize 100 percent of the server's system resources without anyone else sharing these system resources and messing with your web portals.

Hardware configurations

Most hosting firms, incl. us at Bag A Name, provide different hardware configurations you can pick from in accordance with your needs. The hardware architectures include different types of processors, a different amount of cores, different RAM memory and server hard disk drive sizes and different web traffic quotas. You can choose a web hosting Control Panel, which is a handy user interface if you wish to use the dedicated web hosting server for hosting purposes only and choose not to use an SSH terminal for all the modifications you will be making. We offer 3 kinds of Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The web hosting Control Panel of your preference

If you are a self-reliant Linux user (our dedicated hosting servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could manage your dedicated server through SSH exclusively. That, though, could be inconvenient, particularly if you want to give full root-level access to someone else who has less technical experience than yourself. That is why having web hosting CP software installed is an excellent idea. The Hepsia web hosting Control Panel interface that we provide does not offer complete root access and is mostly appropriate for someone who has multiple web pages that swallow lots of system resources, but prefers to manage the sites, databases and electronic mail aliases using a user-friendly hosting Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel hosting CPs, on the other hand, give you full root privileges and include three access levels - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell web hosting accounts rather than utilizing the dedicated hosting web server solely for yourself, you should select one of these two.

Web server monitoring and backup services

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated server and of backing it up. In the event of a predicament with your server, such as a non-responsive Apache or an outage, it is desirable to have some sort of monitoring system activated. Here at Bag A Name the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you have a Managed Services package, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated server too. Backups are also a bonus option - the web hosting services provider offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could select a type of RAID that would permit you to have the same data on two server disk drives as a precaution in the event of a hard disk failure, or in case someone whom you have given full server root access deletes something by mistake.
